The Strength of Many: How Everyday Donors Fuel OneEighty’s Mission

Quote from Janelle Yoder - OneEighty has caring staff that will walk with those coming into the programs and encourage them to make the changes they need to make to turn their life around."

Walk through the streets of Wayne and Holmes Counties, and you’ll see the impact of OneEighty woven into the fabric of our community. From the recovering person with a substance use disorder finding a new path to recovery to the domestic violence survivor finally feeling safe, our organization provides critical services that empower individuals to change direction and build brighter futures.

But OneEighty’s success isn’t just about the programs we offer; it’s about the incredible network of people who support our mission. While we rely on the financial contributions of our generous donors, we understand support for OneEighty comes in many different forms. It includes volunteers who donate their time and energy, local businesses that provide essential goods and services, and everyday citizens who rally behind our cause. These changemakers rally around us – a diverse group of individuals from all walks of life who believe in the power of helping people.

In the following sections, we’ll meet three such individuals. They come from different backgrounds and offer support in various ways, but they share a common thread: a commitment to making a positive difference in our community. Through their stories, we’ll better understand why OneEighty matters and how everyday people like you are shaping a brighter future for Wayne and Holmes Counties.

Everyday Heroes: The Stories Behind OneEighty’s Support System

Dave Noble

Dave Noble’s story isn’t just about financial contributions; it’s about a deep connection to his community and a desire to help those in need. Inheriting a foundation from his father, Dave had a desire to honor his father’s legacy. He could have directed his charitable giving anywhere. However, his search for worthy organizations led him to OneEighty, “There’s nothing better. I was a trial lawyer all my life. I so enjoyed that profession because when people showed up in my office, they had the worst problem of their life. And it was such a privilege to help people with the worst problems of their lives. When people show up at OneEighty, they’ve also got the worst problem of their lives. And OneEighty gives them the opportunity to change their lives and get back on track. And there’s nothing more rewarding than helping others with the worst problem of their lives.”

Dave’s commitment stems from his belief in OneEighty’s effectiveness in tackling addiction and his trust in Bobbi Douglas, OneEighty’s Executive Director. “I need to trust the people that are running the show. I’ve never had any reason not to trust Bobbi. That’s not been true of every organizational leader I’ve dealt with. You know, I found somewhere my attitude changed,” said Dave. This sense of trust and shared values is key for Dave, a sentiment many donors have echoed through the years.

Dave’s generosity extends far beyond financial contributions. He’s used his connections to help secure resources, such as the land for the women’s residential treatment center. “I own a farm on the edge of town that I bought for industrial development. Most of the land I sold off, but I’ve still got 30 acres, and on those 30 acres is an old farmhouse. And when the couple that owned the farm moved out, I called up Bobbi and asked her if she could use it, and she said she could, so I’m renting it to her for a dollar a year,” explained Dave.

Dave’s experience inspires others, particularly young people, who may be considering charitable giving. Dave said it best by sharing, “The line between good and evil runs through every human heart.” Individuals struggling with addiction or mental health issues are not bad people, but rather individuals facing a complex challenge. Dave believes it’s his job and the job of the community to support OneEighty in its mission to provide support and empower individuals to overcome their life circumstances.

Janelle and Jeremy

Janelle Yoder’s involvement with OneEighty began with a simple invitation. She received a call to join the Holmes County Friends and Neighbors board, which sparked a passion for the organization’s mission. With her husband Jeremy’s encouragement, Janelle saw this as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to her community.

Janelle’s experience with OneEighty extends beyond financial contributions. Serving on the board has fostered rewarding relationships with fellow members. Janelle said, “I have so enjoyed my time on the board – building relationships with the other board members and working together as a team to raise funds for OneEighty has been so rewarding.” Working with her fellow board members, they’ve successfully raised significant funds for OneEighty. Witnessing the community unite to support such a vital organization brings her great satisfaction.

Janelle values OneEighty’s role in providing resources to those facing challenges. She explains, “We have had a loved one who needed services like this, and we are so grateful he was able to get help. We are happy to support a local organization that offers hope to people who feel hopeless in their situations.” Domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues are just a few areas where OneEighty offers a helping hand. Knowing her community has a place for people to overcome such obstacles brings her comfort.

For those seeking help, Janelle emphasizes OneEighty’s qualified staff. “OneEighty is equipped with qualified staff to direct an individual to the right program to meet their needs. OneEighty has caring staff that will walk with those coming into the programs and encourage them to make the changes they need to make to turn their life around.”

Janelle clarified that while everyone can’t afford to donate financially, community participation can happen in multiple ways. Attending OneEighty’s fun and family-friendly fundraising events allows for enjoyment while supporting a worthy cause. Additionally, volunteering and board involvement offer alternative ways to contribute to the ongoing mission that helps OneEighty continue to support Wooster, Millersburg, and the surrounding communities.

Tricia and Chris

Tricia and Chris’s involvement with OneEighty began with Tricia serving on the board of trustees. Their dedication has spanned over a decade, with their children now joining them in supporting OneEighty, particularly the Pathway program.

Their continued support stems from OneEighty’s exceptional leadership and impactful programs. They value the organization’s role in supporting those facing addiction and abuse and highlight its positive impact on their community.

Tricia’s board experience was both educational and rewarding. Tricia and Chris view OneEighty as a unique and outstanding resource and are proud to contribute financially. As donors, they appreciate OneEighty’s transparency and strong local presence, coupled with high-quality programs and inspiring leadership.

They encourage those seeking help to consider OneEighty due to its professional, welcoming, and non-judgmental approach to providing quality care.

Tricia’s support of OneEighty has led her to being on the board of Care & Share. A partner agency to OneEighty, Care & Share assists clients who are leaving the shelter and have secured a place to live. Care & Share prepares their new home with furniture, appliances, and more.
